Fishing Report for 5-7-2011

Opening day of the 2011 season arrived this morning bringing with it some kinda tough fishing. We fished a Spooner area lake early. Unable to get fathead minnows locally we had to rely on some pretty big walleye suckers for bait. The first option we tried was jigging with 1/8th ounce jigs, we got a few bites but had trouble sticking fish that were slow biters with the oversized minnows. I really stuck with jigging too long for my own good, as soon as a switch was made to anchoring and breaking out the slip bobbers the action heated up. Walleyes, northerns and smallmouth bass made up a nice mixed bag catch for the morning. It sure was great being out on the water again!

Good luck and good fishing,
