Fishing Report for July ’17

July has been a great month for fishing around the Spooner/Hayward area. Lots of lakes have had a real good deep weed bite for walleyes, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, pike, crappies, and bluegills. Jigging with live bait gives us the best chance at a multiple species catch, but throwing wacky worms has been hot all month for largemouths. The average size LMB is running about 12 to 15 inches, but enough are bigger, up to 20 inches, to keep it interesting.

Muskies have not been the most cooperative of fish for us. We’ve boated some decent fish, but honestly we’ve had some longer than expected stretches of inactivity. I’m expecting a great fall bite this year.

Good luck and good fishing,

Fishing report for June ’17

June was a great fishing month here in the Hayward and Spooner Wisconsin area. The bite has been very good out there for walleyes, bass, pike and panfish. We’ve had some real fun trips with lots of hook setting and reeling in of good fish, lots of happy anglers! Mornings were better than afternoons, and live bait out produced artifical baits. As summer roles along I’m expecting more of the same.

Fishing Report for May ’17

May was a good month for crappies and walleyes here in northwestern Wisconsin. We had some wet windy weather some days but the fish didn’t seem to mind, as nice crappie fishing was the norm for the month. Walleyes were a bit less predictable but we still found some good ones. Looking forward to the long days of summer!

Fishing Report for 5-1-17

Saturday is the opener for us here in northwest Wisconsin. I’m looking forward to another fantastic fishing season! Ice out was early April this year, so walleyes should be all finish spawning by the weekend. Crappies have been moving shallow already and some nice catches have been reported. The forecast for the opener looks good with temps in the low 60’s. I’d like to wish everyone a safe and successful fishing season.

Fishing Report for 10-24-15

This has been a great fall for muskie fishing so far. we’ve caught lots of nice fish. Right now the best bait is live suckers. The Clip-N-Go quick strike rig has been the go to rig for me, this rig teamed up with 14 to 18 inch suckers has been dynamite on fall muskies. Depending on the day the fish are hanging out anywhere from 8 to 24 feet of water.

Fishing Report for 9-20-15

I’ve been focusing on muskies exclusively since Labor Day, and we’ve been doing pretty good on size and numbers of fish. We caught a 48 incher the other day. Most outings we have had more multiple fish days than not. Bucktails, top waters, jerk baits and live suckers are all catching muskies. This is shaping up to be a great fall.

Fishing has been very good around here lately. Nice sized muskies are hitting bucktails, early and late in the day have been best. Trolling crank baits has worked well for a mixed bag of pike, walleyes and bass. Jigging has produced some nice panfish along with the occasional walleye.

Fishing Report for 7-30-15

We’ve been fishing some of everything here lately, adding to the fun of summer!
Walleyes have slowed down just bait from a real nice early summer bite. They are still catchable on jigs and leeches or trolling crank baits.
Smallmouth Bass are going real good. Lots of nice fish have come into my net the past two weeks. Mornings have been best.
Muskies are hitting buck tails and top waters in the evenings. covering water to locate fish during the day and coming back on them late is working.

Good luck and good fishing,

Walleye fishing has been good. We are catching nice numbers of good fish on most lakes we fish. Leeches are the best bait right now too.

Fishing Report for 5-17-15

We’ve been having a great time fishing for crappies lately. Most lakes in our area have crappies up shallow and bitting well. Bobbers and small soft plastics are catching lots of fish. We also have had a nice number of jumbo perch show up as well. Looking forward to the musky season starting this weekend.
