Crappie fishing was great over the weekend, we really had a blast. Lots of fish up shallow and bitting aggressively. Small minnows under a float worked best for us, but feather jigs are working too. I hope this action keeps up for a while, it so much fun!

Opening Day came Saturday inspire of the fact that nearly all lakes here were still froze over. My brother and I continued our tradition of spending opening day together. The only walleye water available was a small Flowage with lots of current running through it. We each had our bites but had a hard time hooking the light bitting walleyes. Our short outing ended without need of the fillet knife, oh well. Water temps were a cool 38.

The amazing spring of ’13 continues! Tonight we are forecast to get another 7 to11 inches of snow. All area lakes are still ice covered and it’s looking like some if not all or most will be frozen on the opener, May 4th. The spring run off should have area rivers running high too. Weekend temps are expected to be in the 60′s or even 70. Stay tuned!

The Capital City Chapter of Muskies Inc. will be holding their annual Muskie School on Saturday March 16th at the High School in Waunakee Wisconsin.
I’ll be there teaching a class ” Muskies of Northwest Wisconsin” from 10:30 till noon. Stop by if you’re in the area, it’s always a great time.

Spring weather is on it’s way! Temps in the upper 30′s and 40′s and longer days mean spring is right around the corner, and I couldn’t be happier about it! I do plan on some late ice crappie fishing first though, they’re great eatin’.
